First lets talk about the spots; there are two. The first spot is at 15 minutes from Manta city, but if you don't want to stay in the city there are houses for rent rigth on the beach. The two destinations offer good wind, ranging from 12 to 22 knots in the season, which starts at May and ends in December. We pretty much have wind all year. Something I really like about these spot is that is a public beach and there is 4 kite schools that can help you with your gear storage, pumping your kite and helping you land it for free. there is usually someone that speaks English in each school so don't worry about the people not understanding you. Some think I love about the spots is that you can do downwinders from Santa Marianita to Manta, and the kite schools actually organize some, I've been in a few and there is usually 15 kites. The wind is side on shore i forgot to mention. I would recommend you come for longer than a week, 2 weeks is ideal for me. Why? cause sometimes in these spot the wind dies for 1 or 2 days so you don't want to come for a week only.
There is some think that you will enjoy a lot here, the food. The sea food here is amazing, I recommend you try cebiche, pescado a la plancha and cangrejo.
